Final, Company Identity

First of all, I had problems with printing, but otherwise this project was a success. I felt really motivated and this project gave me a look for the future. I want to say that my idea of design is that in order to get a good visualization to the work, the feeling and settings are needed. I disagree with some of the "basics" of designing with different opinions about coloring and set ups. I might be wrong, however, I believe that I made a pretty good job with my project.

I am very comfortable with indesign because I had to do a pamflet for the officer school during my service in military. However, I had some issues with Indesign. It turned out to be a huge factor towards my project. I had problems with saving my work and some of my "hard work" was deleted along the pieces I tried to create. Nevertheless, helping hand was really close and all thanks to prof. Corrigan who helped me out with the problem and the loss wasn't huge.

Here are my samples. Sampling and "brainstorming" is not necessarily for me, because I have the basic idea in my head and I know how I am going to do everything. on the other hand, I need to get progress with this area because possible client may want other pieces also. Nonetheless, I did some samples and they are more how to produce, not what going to be in my work.

After this text the post will continue with my first drafts. There are samples of my business card and letter head, I found it fascionating in creating my business card because I could use my imagination a lot. I tried to break a "design code" a little bit by trying different colors with different pieces and do something different.

Here are the Final prints. I think that they worked out pretty nicely. I changed the cover letter almost completely because I felt that it didn't belong to the identity. In the time when I got my prints out, I found few mistakes immediately. well no work is perfect, however, my mistakes are little bit sloppy. I think that my prints don't give credit for my pieces, except the business card was really nice. I believe that the evaluation class before the actual hand out of the final print's was necessary and helpful. I got lot of good tips from both my professor and peer classmates and I did many changes somewhat small, but important like for example taking of outside linings and adding some social media icons to make my work look more like my company's basic idea.
All in all I think that the project gave me a lot of experience. If one would give me access to adobe softwares I could work with them and actually profit from my work. I didn't have a lot of time with this project, but I think I didn't something beyond what was asked.

Final Project Part 1

Pl4tform

1) My business is to create new innovations into software industry. Basically we provide new apps and pl4tforms to make the everyday life easier.
2) Easier life gives people more time to concentrate for the more important priorities.
3) My target audience is every single human being who has some sort of access to the modern every day devices like smartphones, tablets and computers, and who wants to sail through their day without organizing problems
4) Right now we are kind of new market area, so we can actually cope with every other competitor but software and solution companies
5) Our idea is simple better, because we want our products to be simple to use, they need to be handy and cheap for the consumers, they need to be allowed in every kind of software area, and we want to make lot of services to our customers. In other words our goal is to be closer to customers and give more service to them than others.
6)

1) We want to see that your image is happy and easy to use. I want to see that a lot of people are using these products no matter of the background or anything whatsoever.
2) A bear or a teddy with glasses
3) The person would be anyone. If I have to name one, I would pick matt damon and another person who is really from somewhere other category, a regular person.
4) A modern tablet that could do anything! You are just one click away!
5) John Doe, It sounds funny, but because this company belongs to the people the best user is who ever.

# 4 Lyrical Collage

The Lyrical Collage

I didn't have any clue or vision what to do. This project has been honestly the hardest in this class. However, this idea came to my mind when I was listening a song called Butterfly by Jason Mraz. I added an imaginational atmosphere and the main idea is that when the girl has her eyes open, she doesn't see the guy but when she closes them she can imagine him perfectly very close to her. The picture includes "two different backgrounds", so the left one is eyes open and right side is eyes closed. I had very hard time with different tools and changing the colors. However, result was pretty good. I am pleased with it. I think the setting might be my dream place for just spending the rest of my life.

#A6

Assignment 6: Playing with photoshop!

I love space and I tried to create a sun explosion. I used lots of colors when I created the imaginary world. The pyramids are the only ones that I created with my own brush. However, the hardest part with this wark was that my photoshop is in finnish and that I had to change the size of the picture.
I liked this assignment a lot because there wasn't any guidelines how to work. Only guideline that was given in short was the imagination.

#A5 Self insertion

Selfinsertion

This thing was a fun assignment. I didn't actually have any clue what to work on with, but then I found this picture of UN meeting and I started to work on with that. I had problems with selection tools and at first I couldn't change the size of the picture. It took me a lot of time, but I figure it out eventually (I started my project on weekend). However, I learned quickly and it looks pretty good. For the future projects I need to work on with coloring a little more.

#3 Vector illustration, Part 2

Vector illustration

This particular piece took about 6-8 hours all together.
The small white spots on the top right of the piece are pretty
good indicators how detailed the piece was going to be. One
square was about the size of 3-6 pixels.

Doing it again

What I did was practice and practice a lot. At first this is a picture of my girlfriend and I didn't imagine it could be this hard to draw. At first I scaled the whole picture with mesh tool trying to do it as sharp as possible... A mistake! The illustrator was super slow and it collapsed couple of times without saved file. The second time I divided the face into different layers... Another mistake there! I couldn't find a way to connect those different meshes so that I would be pleased. The third time I did the whole face again, but I watched first couple of videos from Youtube from the user "frankwyte81." I found out the basics, but what I didn't saw is that by using a mesh tool the more detailed areas will show out badly, so the mesh tool should be used little by little. However, I manage to keep it in decent contrast somehow.

The Vector illustration

The original picture
The body and the background were really simple to make when I started learning the mesh tool. Only the patience is needed. I also used some basic techniques learned in the course to improve the mesh a little like hair shadows, some bright details with opacity changes, and using a mesh tool on a mesh tool creating more detailed layers like in this case the mouth and the eyes. One very good advice for people when using a mesh is that you might want to color the mesh simply with just few colors quickly by selecting more than one dot at the time. Then the image can be reshaped and more lines can be added, but still keep in mind what is going to happen next, because some dots might be forgotten when the mesh area is filled with same color than the actual mesh area.

#A4 Exquisite corpse, 1. part of #3

Assignment: Exquisite Corpse

I decided to make a vector illustration from the first "corpse" that we created in the class because I draw the head of the tiger. I wanted to keep the figure looking like the drawing, but I wanted to play with the details. I used colors that I like and I tried to create a more conservative tigermermaidgentleman. I think my colors match pretty good with the style that the "tiger" is having and I am very happy with my mermaid tail because I used simple colors and the picture looks still good. When I added few lines to the picture I got it look more like 3D figure. I personally like also the glass because it was the only part in the assignment in which I didn't have any problems with the settings.

# 2 Logos part 3 Company Logo

Project 2 Company Logo

My imagination company is a creative company that tries to find new ways to easier peoples life. Pl4tform is based to have new innovations to everyday life which may be easily used with cellphone.

I wanted to create a logo, something that might connect some way to cellphones and electronic devices. I wanted to use simple colors and make picture look really simple far away and detailed when looked closely. The P4F is very strong abbreviation for the company name. I used just red, yellow, black, and white. Mainly I used them because those are my favorite colours and they look very strong. However, at the same time it will pop up to viewers eye. I had little problems for creating shapes, I couldn't find a way to cut peaces out from shapes that had just line without filling at all. I used very simple structures and I actually did more "drawing" than creating shapes.

# A3 Caligramme

Assigment 3: Caligramme

It was hard to find a picture that I really like and could be transferred to be caligramme with my skills, but I found one. So here is my picture first and under it is the real one that I found from the web.
The hardest part of this task was probably choosing the right fonts that will fit. What I did was that I wanted the body to be tender and fragile. At the same time I wanted to emphasize wings and make them look a little scary looking. I don't want to define anything so that's why I left the face clear. I put those "eyes" little lower, so that they would make the head look more round. So they are not eyes, just a blank face. The shade on the ground gave the picture a little bit of third dimension. I really enjoyed my time when doing this, because I could write what ever I had on my mind. It was relieving.

# A2 The Logo Review, 2. part of the #2

Project 2 part 2     Logo Review

 NIKE

Eventhough we went through the Nike logo, I wanted to share it because I have mutual intrest with the founder of Nike. Nike is actually very religous symbol as well name as a logo. Nike is a name of a greek goddess of victory. I don't remember where I first time heard about this, but I have a big intrest towards greek mythology.
The logo represents the wing of Nike. Logo's unique shape is known all over the world as one of the biggest brands in fields of sports equipment. The Logo is also really simple but elegant. It can adapt to any situation and color. One could see and regognize the shape even if it was really small. The logo is also timeless. It is very near to be perfect. Under the first black and white are two different logos where is possible to see the aptitude of the logo in different colours and with text. But the text is definetly not needed.

RedBull

One of the largest energy drink brands in the world. An Austrian firm that can be seen in any extreme sports. The logo it self has a clear setup with pure colours but still detailed small picture on it. Eventhough the picture would be so small that the text couldn't be read, it would still be obvious. The logo contains lot of power and "anger". It is also regognizable if it didn't have text and if the layout would be completely different containing still the sun and bulls. First time when I saw RedBull I thought that those red bulls would be wings, because on tv in Finland red bull had a slogan that the RedBull gives you wings. Still the outcome is obvious. The backround can remind someone of a BMW's logo.

VIRGIN

For someone who may not know the fact is that Virgin is one of the biggest multiorganize enterprises in the world. It contains companies from the flight company to the credit card company and from a book company to insurance company. The logo itself has a unique story:

"The brand name 'Virgin' arose when Branson and a partner were starting their first business, a record shop. They considered themselves virgins in business. The Virgin logo was originally sketched on a paper napkin and remains largely unchanged from the original style used." (goodlogo.com)

The logo's layout is clear and simple. It's not probably the best logo in small size, but it definetly has lot of history and backround. As a word "virgin" is very powerful and it creates all kind of images in a viewer head. It also shares feelings. In my opinion this is one of the greatest logos in the world because the typing is neat and memorable features. Without the text it wouldn't be anything, because it doesn't have any unique shape or detail except the text. That is why the text is always the same eventhough the surroundings change. Simplicity is beautiful and powerful name tells you more than a thousand stories.

MTV

There is no need for introduction. Worldwide tv channel. MTV’s logo is very strong. The letter M is very massive and effective. All most everyone in the world who has acces to tv knows something about MTV. The logo relates the subject straight to the tv. It is simple and easy to remember and it has pretty unique style in it's category of a tv logo. It doesn't prag. It looks similar in different colours and the size doesn't effect the fact that it is very recognizable. Simply the M and TV is enough to tell what is talked about. Still it doesn't look boring at all. In fact it is very catchy and to my eyes it looks like youthful and fresh not formal at all. Great piece, because it looks good on tv too, when the size is about 1/6 of that picture.

Linux

The most underestimated logo in the world. By that I don't mean that it is underestimated because of how it looks instead the reason is that people just sees a pinquin on the logo. It is not connected to the Linux and it has nothing to do with the computers that is why people can't link it to one of the biggest and the most realiable computer operating system in the world. The fact is that it doesn't have to. It is not made to because it is not made as a product logo that should sell. It is made for be an image to represent Linux "inside" the operating system. By that I mean that Linux itself is not interily a complete product but "Open source."
The logo wouldn't look good if it was small. It is just contented pinquin. It represents just the likes of a creator of the Linux. It neither reminds at all of computing system or nor give any tips at all. As a picture it is quite simple and it has few varietys, but the most important thing is that I don't find any other company that would have a logo that doesn't have a meaning towards the subject. That point makes it unique. It is just a piece of art.
